What Will Exams & Assessments Look Like In 2022?
The Department for Education and exam regulator Ofqual have just published proposals on arrangements for school exams in 2022, intended to recognise and mitigate the disruption to education over the last 18 months, as a result of the global pandemic.
The suggested arrangements for GCSEs and A Levels include giving colleges and schools advance information about the content focus of exams for some subjects, as well as including choices about the topics that pupils will be assessed for in other subject areas.
In addition, students will be given a formulae sheet in GCSE mathematics and an expanded equations sheet in physics and combined science, while requirements will also be changed for practical science work and practical assessments in art and design.
The government has also included an ambitious package of measures to support educational recovery, with more than £3 billion in funding, to cover summer schools, tutoring and mental health support, as well as teacher training and development.
Ofqual interim chief regulator Simon Lebus said: “With things slowly returning to normal we are launching a consultation so that the flexibility we are building into qualifications will futureproof them against any public health crisis.
“And we want employers, colleges and universities to have the confidence in those qualifications to allow students to move to the next stage of their lives. We look forward to feedback on our plans from students, parents and teachers to ensure we understand their needs, particularly those whose education has been more harshly affected by the pandemic.”
